Description
Merrymen is a house dated 1737, featuring the initials H and A.F above the door. It is constructed from large, coursed, herringbone-tooled sandstone and has a pantiled roof with a brick chimney. The building has two storeys and one wide bay. The entrance consists of a six-panel door set in jambs that appear to be from the 19th century, located under a heavy, likely original, dated lintel that is partly concealed by a gabled, bracketed hood. The front elevation is otherwise blank, with cyma moulded eaves. The roof is very high-pitched, adorned with shaped copings and prominent curved kneelers. The left side of the house features a small four-pane casement window in an old opening, along with an inserted garret window. The right side has an incised rendered finish and consists of two storeys, a gable attic, and a basement with two bays. The basement includes a glazed door and a small Yorkshire sash window, while the other windows are four-pane sashes.
