Description

Millhouse is a house that now serves as the registered office of Burgess Animal Feeds. It was built in the late 18th century and has undergone some alterations and extensions. The house was originally constructed for John Priestman. The front is made of hammer-dressed sandstone with chamfered quoins, while the sides and rear are dressed sandstone featuring herringbone-tooled quoins at the back. It has a timber porch and a pantile roof with brick stacks.

The layout includes a central stairhall plan that is one and a half rooms deep, with a rear service extension. The building is two stories tall and has a symmetrical three-window front. The central entrance features a six-panel door with an overlight, sheltered by a cornice porch supported by piers. Throughout the house, there are 16-pane sash windows with painted sills, and all openings have painted wedge lintels. The eaves are stepped, and the gables are coped with shaped kneelers, along with an end stack.

Inside, there is a closed string staircase with stick balusters, a turned newel, and a moulded handrail. The front rooms on both floors have fluted square architraves around the door and window openings, including the fire window in the ground floor room to the left. Similar architraves are found in the alcoves of the two first-floor front rooms. Most doors are six raised and fielded panels.
