Description

Brook House is a house located on Priestman's Lane in Thornton Dale. It was built in the mid-18th century, with extensions added in the late 18th century and the 20th century, and it underwent remodelling in the 20th century. The house was constructed for the Priestman family and features rose and cream brick in garden wall bond on a stone plinth, with orange-red brick dressings. It has a timber porch and a pantile roof.

Originally, the house had a central stairhall plan and was one and a half rooms deep, but it was later extended to the left in two stages. The building is two stories high with a three-window front. The current entrance is located on the right gable wall, while the original entrance in the center of the main front has been blocked and replaced with a 12-pane sash window. The remaining windows are 16-pane sashes, all featuring flat arches made of gauged brick with stone tripartite keyblocks. Stone sills are present on all windows.

There is a raised band of three courses of brick at the first floor level and two similar bands below the stepped eaves course. On the right gable wall, there is a 6-panel door with a divided overlight, situated beneath a 20th-century cornice porch supported by piers. The sashes to the left of this door are 20th-century insertions. The house has coped gables and shaped kneelers, as well as end stacks.
