Description
Low Cote Farmhouse is a house with two sections and stables, located in North Yorkshire. The earlier part of the house dates to around 1800, while the addition on the right and the barn are likely from the early 19th century. The building is constructed of hammer-dressed sandstone with a pantile roof. Originally, it had a two-cell layout, probably with an entry at the right gable end, and features a single-cell addition and a kitchen wing to the right, with stables to the left. There is an outshut at the rear of the house.
The farmhouse is two storeys high, with seven first-floor windows, three for the stable, and four for the house. The single-storey kitchen wing has a board door in a stone lean-to porch, with one two-light and one three-light Yorkshire sash window to the right. The earlier section of the house has quoined corners and features two three-light Yorkshire sashes beneath keyed herringbone-tooled lintels, along with a fire window to the right. The later addition includes a 20th-century half-glazed door with a three-light Yorkshire sash beneath a milled stone lintel to the right.
The stable has three stable doors and shows evidence of heightening in the first two bays above the doors. On the first floor, there are three three-light Yorkshire sashes for the house and three half-sized pitching doors for the stable. The gable has coping, and the earlier section of the house features corniced stacks, while there is a brick stack at the right gable end.
