Description
Hamer Bridge is a bridge built in the mid to late 18th century, with renovations made in the 20th century. It is constructed from rusticated and herringbone-tooled sandstone and features a single span with a semicircular arch made of voussoirs supported by canted abutments. The flat coping has been replaced at the center by the bed of the modern road, and a timber safety fence has been added in place of the original parapet. This bridge served as an important connection on the coal and lime trading route between the villages to the north and south of the moors, which thrived from the late 18th century to the early 20th century.
