Description
The Church of St Margaret (Old Church) is a ruined building located on Gatela Road in Harwood Dale. It was constructed in 1634 for Sir Thomas Posthumous Hoby, as noted on a tablet now found in the new St Margaret's Church. The church is made of squared grey sandstone and originally had a roof of stone slabs with coped gables. It has an unaisled rectangular shape, featuring a south porch and a west bellcote.
The east end of the church has a 3-light window with a transom, while the west side includes a 2-light round-arched window. The north wall has three 2-light windows and a blocked doorway with a shallow ogee arch. The south side features two 2-light windows. All the windows have chamfered frames and mullions on the exterior, and the arches of the west windows are keyed outside. There are no interior fittings remaining. The boundary wall surrounding the church is also part of the listing.
