Description
The Moorcock Inn is a farmhouse with attached stables and cart-sheds, now functioning as an inn and outbuildings. It dates from the late 18th century, with alterations and extensions made in the 19th and 20th centuries. The building is constructed of squared sandstone, which has been whitewashed, and features a pantile roof with rebuilt brick stacks.
The inn has a central-entry plan with an outshut and has been extended to the right and into the outbuildings on the left. It has two low storeys and a two-window front, with a single-storey extension to the right and a single-storey range to the left, where the first bay is now part of the house. There is a door with raised and fielded panelling to the right of a replacement top-opening light, while the remaining windows are 2-light horizontal sliding sashes. The ground-floor lintels are tooled stone, while those on the first floor are timber.
To the right, there is a plank door leading to the extension, accompanied by a 4-pane sash window, both featuring timber lintels. The building has a stepped eaves course and stacks at the left end and centre right. The first bay of the range to the left includes a plank door with a timber lintel, situated to the right of a 2-light, large-pane horizontal sliding sash window, with a stack to the left.
Inside, the ground floor displays exposed beams with beaded moulding. To the right of the entrance, there is a door with four raised and fielded panels, while other doors are planked with H and L hinges. In the second room to the left, there is a notable 19th-century range by Candler of Scarborough, complete with a crane and reckon, which is still in use. The ladder stair leading to the loft above is also preserved.
