Description

Foulsyke House is a farmhouse, likely built in the early 18th century, with some alterations. It consists of two sections: the main house is constructed from coursed herringbone-tooled sandstone, while the downhouse has mostly been rebuilt using coursed rubble. The roof is made of Welsh slate with stone ridge, copings, and kneelers, and features brick stacks; the downhouse has a concrete tile roof.

The layout follows a hearth-passage plan. The lower downhouse has two storeys and one bay, with a passage entrance that includes a boarded door with decorative hinges under a timber lintel. To the right, there is a mid-19th century fixed light and two small plain casements above. The main house has one storey and an attic, with two wide bays. The ground floor features two modern windows with pivoted tops and a small central stair window. There are plain casements in two dormers that rest on the eaves, and prominent curved kneelers. The house has end chimneys, as well as a chimney at the end of the downhouse, and some stonework on the left has been altered.

On the rear (south) elevation, there is a boarded passage door with a small fixed light and two Yorkshire sash windows to the left, along with two small plain casements above. Inside the main house, there are two tripartite windows with glazing bars and central opening sashes, and three flat-headed dormers with modern casements above. The interior features an inglenook with a heck and salt cupboard, and beamed ceilings that may date from the early 19th century. There is a bracketed stone fireplace from the 18th century in the downhouse. A timber and corrugated iron lean-to at the east end is not of interest.
