Description
Grosmont Bridge is a bridge from the early 18th century, built on the site of a 17th century or earlier structure. It is constructed of dressed sandstone and features three spans, with the central span being higher than the others. The bridge has semicircular arches made of voussoirs and rolled hoodmoulds, which are separated by weathered, shouldered cutwaters. There is a raised band beneath the raking parapet, which has a cambered coping. The cutwaters rise into pilaster buttresses that create embrasures in the parapet. The parapet ends with square-section piers that have flat caps. This information is referenced in E. Jervoise's "Ancient Bridges of the North of England."
