Description
The walls to the courtyard and bridge on the south side of Palace House are designated as a Grade II* structure. These walls, which include turrets and a bridge on the east side, date from the early 18th century, while the bridge itself was constructed in the late 19th century. The walls are made of rubble stone with some brick dressings on the turrets and feature slate roofs, while the bridge is built of dressed stone.
The courtyard, located to the south of Palace House, is surrounded by walls that rise above a moat extending from the east and west corners of the house. The east wall features a 19th-century stone bridge, and there are turrets at the corners along with a gateway in the south wall leading to a causeway. The walls stand 3 meters high from the bottom of the moat, and on the opposite side, they are 1 meter high above a raised walkway. The turrets are circular with conical roofs and doorways. The bridge has two pointed arches and an offset parapet with chamfered coping. The gateway consists of two square-section piers that support a pair of wrought iron gates.
