Description
Beufre Farmhouse is a farmhouse located on the site of a monastic grange. It has medieval origins and was rebuilt in the 16th century, with further remodeling around 1700 and alterations in the 19th century. The building is constructed of rubble stone with brick dressings and has an old plain tile roof.
The farmhouse is set back from the road and is two stories tall with an attic. It features three bays, a crosswing at the far end, and a single-storey wing at the rear side of the road end bay. The garden front includes the crosswing on the left-hand side. Between the crosswing and the main range is a 19th-century rectangular flat-roofed brick porch, which has a modillioned cornice, a two-light casement window in a raised architrave, and a door on the right-hand side.
The end of the crosswing has paired two-light casements in separate raised architraves, along with a small similar window in the gable. In the bay to the right of the porch, there are paired three-light casements in separate raised architraves on both floors. The right-hand bay features an intermediate level three-light casement in a brick opening with a gauged arch.
An unusual roof structure exists between the crosswing and the main range. The gable of the crosswing suggests that there should have been a hipped roof over the angle between the two, which has been cut away. There are two-light casements on the first floor and attic of both faces, with only a small portion of the hip roof remaining.
