Description

Longlands Cottage and the adjoining barn are a farmhouse and barn dated 1694, as inscribed above the rear entrance, with 19th-century alterations. The cottage features roughcast walls on large projecting plinth stones and is topped with a slate roof, using Welsh slate on the front and greenslate on the rear, along with roughcast chimney stacks. The barn is constructed from a mix of limestone and cobble rubble, covered by a 20th-century tile roof. The building is two storeys high and consists of two bays, with the lower barn positioned to the left. The windows are 20th-century replacements set in slightly enlarged 19th-century surrounds, although there are two small original ground-floor windows, one of which is a fire window. The barn has upper slit vents. At the rear of the house, there is an outshut featuring one two-light chamfered stone-mullion window and two similar windows where the mullions have been removed. The rear entrance to the right has an original 17th-century studded and hinged plank door in a chamfered surround, topped by a dated lintel. Inside, there is an inglenook with a heck partition and firebeam. The rear of the barn includes a large cart entrance, a smaller doorway to the right, and a 19th-century casement window.
