Description

Orrest Head Farmhouse, built in 1834, is a 17th-century structure located on Kendal Road. The farmhouse is constructed of roughcast stone rubble and features an old graded slate roof. It has two low storeys and a Latin cross plan with thick walls. The windows are modern but set in old openings. At the rear, there is a lean-to porch situated in the angle, and a long range of stone barns with external stairs forms the long arm of the cross. The building has a chimney at the crossing and additional chimneys on the gable ends. It is said to contain remains of crucks inside, and the south-east wing is a later addition.
