Description
The Duke William Hotel is a public house located on Main Street in Staveley. It dates from the early 19th century, possibly incorporating an earlier core. The building features roughcast render and a plinth, with scored and painted quoins. It has a graduated greenslate roof that is hipped to the left, topped with a blue glazed ridge and three corniced chimneys. A corniced ogee gutter is supported on decorative cast-iron brackets.
The hotel is two storeys high and has five windows. The ground floor windows are 19th-century sashes, while the upper floor features early 19th-century sashes with glazing bars, except for the second window from the left, which is a 20th-century top-hung casement that fits well with the overall design. All windows are framed with moulded architraves.
The main entrance is located to the left and is topped with a steep pediment supported by consoles adorned with acanthus ornaments, featuring a 20th-century door. There is also a subsidiary entrance to the right, which has a 20th-century door set within a moulded architrave.
