Description
Elderbeck and Cottage are two houses, likely built in the mid to late 18th century. They are constructed from roughcast stone and have slate roofs. The west elevation features two storeys with four irregular bays, along with single-storey bays at both the north and south ends. The gables are coped. The windows are sashed, with paired sashed windows in the third and fourth bays, which are wider than the others. The entrance, located between the second and third bays, has a stone surround, a cornice, and a six-panel door, with two glazed panels. There is a similar but plainer entrance in the fourth bay. The building has two gable-end stacks and a cross-axial stack. The single-storey bays have blind Venetian windows, and the south end bay has an inserted casement window. The rear of the building features outshuts, and the single-storey bay to the north serves as an open-fronted outbuilding. It is noted that there was once a panel over the main entrance displaying Scots masonic symbols.
