Description
This is a terrace of ten late 17th-century cottages, numbers 2 to 11 Church Street, Ambleside. The cottages are built with roughcast over stone rubble and have flag roofs which step down the hillside. They are two storeys high. Each cottage originally had a single window on each floor, although some now have modern glazed doors. Most of the windows are sash windows with 12 panes, although No. 2 has modern casements. Cottages 3, 4 and 7 have two windows to each floor. No. 5 now incorporates a small shop with a modern window. Numbers 2 to 11 form a group with the Royal Oak Hotel, premises occupied by T and J Glen, Rotha’s Cafe and premises occupied by Tyson, Lake Road.
