Description
The Royal Oak Hotel is located at the corner of Church Street and Lake Road in Ambleside. It dates from the late 17th century and has been altered over time. The building is constructed of roughcast stone rubble and features a slate roof with two low storeys. The entrance consists of a panelled door framed by a plain stone architrave with a cornice above. On the ground floor, there are three 6-paned sash windows, while the upper floor has four sash windows of the same style. The roof is adorned with two small gabled dormers, each containing 6-paned sashes. To the left, a wing connects the hotel to the rear of Glen's grocery shop. The Royal Oak Hotel, along with Nos 2 to 11 (consecutive), the premises occupied by T and J Glen, and Rotha's Cafe, forms a group with the premises occupied by Tyson on Lake Road.
