Description
The Spire is a monument that possibly dates to around 1800. It is constructed from coursed stone rubble and features a rectangular-plan base with a plinth that has simple mouldings made of projecting courses. There is a recess on the north-east face, which may have been intended for an inscribed panel. The structure is a short rectangular-plan obelisk. Its history is not well-documented, but it may have been built by James King of Finsthwaite House, who is also known for constructing the nearby Pennington Lodge Tower.
