Description

Middles' Farmhouse and the adjoining barn date back to 1722, as indicated by the inscription for George and Mary Marke, with the barn being dated 1805 above its entrance. The farmhouse features roughcast walls with raised painted quoins on the right side and a graduated greenslate roof topped with stone and yellow brick chimney stacks. The barn is constructed from a mix of slate and split-cobble rubble, with rusticated sandstone quoins on the right. The farmhouse is two storeys high and originally had six bays, but now has five, with a single-bay barn to the right under a common roof.

The main entrance has an off-centre plank door set in a painted stone surround, topped with an inscribed frieze and an open segmental pediment. There is an additional door on the extreme left in a painted stone surround. The windows are flat cross-mullioned, and those between the entrances have been modified to include an additional central light. Above the entrance is a round window, and there is a blocked single-light window on the upper floor. The barn features plank doors and a loft, with alternate block sandstone surrounds. A segmental cart entrance in the end wall includes a dated keystone.
