Description

A farmhouse with adjoining byre, earth closet, and cart shed, dating to the 17th century or earlier, with later additions and alterations. The farmhouse is constructed of rough rubble stone with quoins, partly lime-washed, and has a graduated slate roof. Originally three bays, the house was extended into what was probably an 18th-century scullery at the north end. The south-facing elevation has a plank door with a sash window to the left and a casement to the right; a 20th-century window is located to the far right. Four pivoted casements are positioned above. A plank door to the north return has stone steps leading up to a first-floor door. The outbuildings adjoin the farmhouse to the south and share the same roof. A byre entrance is located in a two-bay outshut, which contains a two-seater earth closet above a staircase on the left. Steps lead to a loft door on the left of the outshut, and a cart shed door, with a fixed window above, sits to the far left. Stone mid-chimneys are present, and the south gable has stone coping. The interior of the farmhouse includes a 17th-century court cupboard built into the south wall of the hall passage, and a long dresser built into the west wall of the rear passage. The front room (north) features moulded and chamfered spine beams with run-out stops, a corniced 18th-century fireplace with a fluted and reeded keystone, a wall cupboard to the right, and window seats. The upper section of the roof is supported by cruck framing.
