Description

The walls enclosing the garden, located about 200 metres north of the Leonard Wills Field Centre, date from the late 18th century. They are constructed of red brick in English bond and feature a flat sandstone ashlar coping. The walls are set on a sloping hillside and have a rectangular plan, divided horizontally by another wall. The south front has curved corners and reaches a height of about 3.5 metres, while the north side slopes down to about 1.5 metres. The central dividing wall is approximately the same height. There are depressed arch entrances on the west front, with brick piers between steeply inclined courses of brickwork that run parallel to the ground. These walls are part of an important group of estate buildings associated with the former Nettlecombe Court, now the Leonard Wills Field Centre. At the time of the survey in October 1983, the garden was overgrown, and the north wall was in poor condition.
