Description
The archway and gate, located about 30 metres south of Combe Sydenham, is a disused entrance to the estate. The archway, likely built in the 18th century and altered in the early 20th century, is constructed of coursed red sandstone rubble. It features a semi-circular arched opening with squared voussoirs and a keystone that touches a moulded cornice. The parapet is missing, and there are three imported square stone piers with moulded caps and ball finials positioned above the cornice. The archway has rusticated jambs and curved abutments with flat coping, leading down to a low wall. The rear elevations include raking buttresses on the west front. The gate, dating from the mid-19th century, is made of wrought and cast iron, featuring a dado of spearhead uprights and three tiers of double scrolls.
