Description
Tarr Steps is a clapper bridge that crosses the River Barle. It has medieval origins and has been rebuilt several times due to flood damage, with the most recent repairs occurring in 1942, 1952, and 1979. The bridge is constructed from local grit sandstone slabs, each weighing between 1 and 2 tons. It features seventeen spans and measures 55 meters in length, standing about one meter above the river.
