Description
Rhyll Manor is a large house with a core that likely dates back to the 18th century, featuring a 19th-century front entrance wing. The interior has been heavily altered in the 20th century. The building is constructed of unrendered stone rubble and has slate roofs with bracketed eaves and gable-ended slate roofs. There are several scattered axial unrendered stone rubble stacks, with four located at the rear wing and one axial stack in the front range.
The plan is L-shaped, with the 18th-century core consisting of three rooms on the rear left side. The central room is heated by a rear stack, while the flanking rooms are heated by end stacks. There is an axial rear passage that is enclosed by a two-storey extension from the 19th century. It is possible that the original 18th-century core extended further to the left, but this area appears to have been largely rebuilt and incorporated into the 19th-century front range, which has undergone extensive alterations in the 20th century.
The exterior stands at two storeys and features a six-window range. The 20th-century fenestration mainly consists of two-light casements with eight panes per light, topped with cambered stone lintels. A stone porch with slender stone columns and fluted capitals supports a moulded entablature. The rear wing retains early 19th-century fenestration on its inner face, primarily featuring 16-paned sash windows.
Inside, some small panelling, likely from the 18th century, survives in the rear passage of the core. The fireplace in the central room has stone jambs and a brick hearth back that incorporates a small section of herringbone slate work. Otherwise, the interior has been entirely altered in the 20th century.
