Description
The threshing barn, located about 30 metres south of Aller Farmhouse, is a Grade II listed structure likely dating from the 17th or 18th century, with significant repairs and a roof replacement from the 19th century. It is constructed from cob and stone rubble and features a corrugated iron roof, gabled at both ends. The barn has a rectangular plan with large opposing doorways and is positioned above and to the south of the farmhouse.
On the north side, there are remains of a rounded horse engine house, which is likely from the 19th century, while a lean-to is situated on the right side at the south end. The exterior is single-storey, showcasing a large doorway at the front, with a buttress to the left of this entrance. The lean-to at the right end includes two granite monoliths, which were presumably originally open-fronted but are now infilled with a mix of weatherboarding, breeze blocks, and corrugated iron. The horse engine house is partly in ruins and has a lean-to corrugated iron roof at the rear, with a surviving beam. Inside, the barn features nine bays of roof trusses supported by collar rafters, likely from the 19th century.
