Description
The walls, gates, and gate piers immediately east of North Lodge date from around 1828, likely designed by C.R. Ayers, the architect of Canonteign House. These features consist of two sections of curved wall that end in piers to the east, with gate piers and gates to the west. On the opposite side of the road, there are similar sections of curved walls along with gate piers and gates. The construction includes granite ashlar walling and gate piers, with two pairs of timber gates. The curved walls end in rusticated granite gate piers topped with ball finials, marking the entrance to a former drive to Canonteign House. Each section of walling has similar but slimmer outer piers. The timber gates feature diagonal braces and curved straits that create a lunette design, resembling the window heads of Canonteign House, with splat acorn finials above the top rail. The listing also includes similar walls and a pair of gates on the other side of the road.
