Description
Broomhill Cottage is a cottage dating from the 18th century, with a 19th-century rear outshut. It is constructed of colourwashed rendered cob and stone, topped with a thatched roof that is hipped at the left end and gabled at the right end, featuring projecting end stacks. The building has a single depth, two-room plan, with a larger room on the right side and an entrance to the left of centre that leads to a straight stair. Most of the internal partitions have been modernized.
The cottage is two storeys high and has an asymmetrical three-window front, with the thatch eaves eyebrowed over the three first-floor windows. There is a 20th-century gabled thatched porch to the left of centre. The first floor features three two-light timber casements with small panes, while the ground floor has a similar window on the left and two windows to the right of the door, one being a one-light casement and the other a two-light casement, each with six panes per light. Inside, the cottage has been largely modernized, with a forked crossbeam in the right ground floor room and an open fireplace with a cut stone lintel. The roof's apex was not inspected, but the principal rafters appear to be straight.
