Description
Benah House is a house dating from the early 19th century, likely a remodelling of an earlier structure. The exterior is colourwashed and rendered, with a slate roof that was originally thatched. Gable ends are present, along with stacks to the front of the ridge, featuring a brick shaft and a truncated projecting stack with a bread oven at the rear of the ridge. The house has a double-depth plan, with two principal rooms on the front, one on each side of a central corridor containing the staircase. The symmetrical three-bay front features a central panelled front door with a gabled porch having timber lattice sides. Sixteen-pane timber sash windows are found in the outer bays, and a round-headed timber stair window with glazing bars sits above the front door. Arched windows are present on the first floor of the left and right ends. Inside, the joinery dates from the early 19th century, including shutters and a stick baluster staircase. A marble chimney piece is also present. Benah House is a largely unspoiled property situated in a prominent position in Bennah.
