Description

This is a pair of houses located on West Street in Ashburton, dating from the mid-19th century. They are now used as part-offices and have shops on the ground floor. The front of the building is solid rendering over brickwork, with a slate roof. Each gable end has a red-brick chimney with projecting brickwork caps. The building is three storeys high and originally three windows wide. The ground floor includes a separately listed medieval granite archway leading to Church Path, with a 20th-century shop window and entrance door to either side. Above the ground floor, the second and third storeys of the left-hand house have a square wooden bay window with six transomed lights on each level, featuring coloured glass in the transom lights. The remaining windows are 2-paned sash windows. A raised band runs above the ground and second storeys, and the building is finished with a deep, bracketed eaves cornice.
