Description

This stable and shippon, built around the early 19th century, is located approximately 10 metres south-south-west of Higher Lettaford. It features granite rubble walls with larger quoins and an asbestos slate roof that is gable ended. The building is divided into two parts: one side serves as a stable and the other as a shippon, with a hay loft above and later outshuts at either end. It is two storeys tall with an asymmetrical front. There are ground floor doorways to the left of centre and to the right, with a window opening between the doors and to the left. A loading door is situated above the right-hand door on the first floor. The left-hand room at the rear has a slit window. Inside, the right-hand room includes cross beams and old stall partitions, with a drain running along the floor behind them. This structure is part of an important group of farm buildings and early houses in a small moorland settlement on the edge of Dartmoor.
