Description

The former coach house, located to the north-west of the Rectory in Moretonhampstead, dates from the early 19th century and has been altered, likely in the 20th century. It serves as the front range of a stable yard and is currently used as a garage. The front wall is constructed of granite rubble with granite dressings, while the side walls are rendered. The roof is a monopitch slate design, sloping away from the front and featuring lower eaves at the rear.

The coach house is rectangular in shape and has a central carriageway leading to a rear stable yard. The front elevation is two stories high and symmetrical, consisting of three bays. Although all openings are blocked, the blockings are recessed. The ground floor features a large blocked carriageway at the center, which has a raised ashlar surround and a flat arch with a keystone. There are also blocked windows on either side with granite arches, and three blocked window openings above, with the center one being wider and having rendered lintels. A garage doorway has been added to the left-hand east end, providing access from the forecourt of the Rectory. Despite the blocked openings, the front elevation remains an impressive feature along Cross Street.
