Description

The Harvey headstone, located approximately 4 metres southeast of the chancel of the Church of St. Mary in Throwleigh, is a headstone dating from the late 17th century to early 18th century, commemorating William Harvey. It is an upright slab that stands about 500mm high and features a shaped head. The upper part of the front has a sunken panel that displays a winged cherub's head in low relief. The inscription is crafted in neat Roman serif upper and lower case lettering, recording the burial of William Harvey, although the date is obscured by a valedictory introduction that begins with "This Dartmoor stone....".
