Description

Huccaby Farm Cottage is a longhouse dating from the late 16th century or early 17th century, located approximately 20 meters south-west of Huccaby Farmhouse. The building features granite rubble walls and an asbestos slate roof, which is gabled on the right side and hipped on the left. There are two stacks; one at the right gable end is rendered, while the axial stack is made of granite blocks with a tapering cap.

The layout includes a shippon at the left end and a passage originally at the right end, which was separated from the shippon by a light wooden partition that has since been removed, with the rear doorway now blocked. To the right of the passage is a hall with a fireplace that backs onto it, and an inner room at the far right end that is heated by a gable end fireplace. In the 19th century, a rear outshut was added, providing a direct entrance into the hall, and the shippon's roof was raised.

The exterior is two storeys high with an asymmetrical three-window front, featuring the shippon on the left. The windows are 2-light casements from the late 19th century, with the right-hand ground floor window having a stone dripmould above it. There is a 19th-century gabled porch to the left of the centre, which has a 20th-century part-glazed door behind it. The shippon includes a full-height opening to the right and two ventilation slits just below the eaves.

Inside, the hall fireplace has granite monolithic jambs, although its lintel is obscured. The back of the hall fireplace, located in the shippon, is made of granite ashlar with a chamfered cornice.
