Description

MORETONHAMPSTEAD SX 78 NW 1/75 Barn approximately 10 metres to - east of Bowden Farmhouse

Barn. Dated 1810. Granite rubble walls with larger quoins and dressed stones to voussoir arch. Dressed granite coping stones and kneelers at either gable end. Slate roof, gable ended, with shallow pentice over front doorway. 3-bay plan with central threshing floor with opposing doorways. Single storey with loft. Large central doorway to threshing floor with slightly cambered arch and plank doors. Above doorway is date stone inscribed with E.C. 1810 To right is narrow ventilation slit and attached at the left side is another building projecting at right angles. Ventilation slit at either gable end on the ground floor with a loading door on the first floor of the left gable end. Inside is probably the original pegged roof.
