Description
The range of buildings to the south of Abbot's Tower at Buckfast Abbey dates from around 1800 and has undergone 20th-century alterations. The buildings are cement-rendered with a slate roof that has gables at both ends. There is a rendered shaft on the right end stack, a platband, and an old pot, along with an axial stack to the left of center and a rear lateral stack. The layout is single-depth with a rear right outshut, and the interior has been re-partitioned and rearranged for office use.
The exterior features two storeys and an asymmetrical five-window south front, which includes a 20th-century timber door on the left. There are five ground-floor sash windows, with the left-hand sash having eight over twelve panes and the others being 16-pane hornless sashes. The left-hand side of the first floor has two gabled dormers, one with a 12-pane sash and the other with a 20-pane sash, while the remaining three first-floor windows are 16-pane hornless sashes. The west gable end likely has small-pane sash windows from the 20th century. The rear elevation includes 19th and 20th-century timber windows and a 20th-century timber door. The interior has been modernized, and although the roof was not inspected, it may hold some interest.
