Description

Upper Farmhouse is a former farmhouse dated 1638 on the stack. It features square panelled timber framing with rendered infill, coursed squared and dressed limestone, and a stone slate roof with an ashlar stack. The building has a roughly 'L'-shaped plan.

The entrance front has a timber-framed and painted brick gable that projects forward to the left, with a three-light 20th-century casement featuring diamond-shaped leaded panes, and a single-light casement with a part-glazed door on the ground floor. To the right, a stone-built range extends, featuring a three-light stone-mullioned casement with a hood on the ground floor, and two timber-framed eaves dormers with 20th-century two-light casements above a band of panel framing. There is a part-glazed door within a moulded three-centred arched surround with enriched spandrels to the right of the projecting gable.

On the west-facing gable end, there is a two-light double-chamfered stone-mullioned casement with a stopped hood, a two-light wood casement with a concrete lintel, and a small single-light window above. The roadside front includes a four-light stone-mullioned casement with a king mullion and stopped hood, along with a single-light casement with glazing bars. A timber-framed wall projects forward to the right, featuring 20th-century glass doors and a two-light steel casement, both with diamond leaded panes, on the west side.

The stone-built gable end has a 20th-century three-light stone-mullioned casement with a stopped hood, and a two-light stone-mullioned casement above. There are also a 20th-century two-light casement, a two-light eaves dormer, and a three-light flat-roofed dormer on the east front. The building has a gable-end and off-the-ridge stack. The interior has not been inspected.
