Description
1 Tolsey Lane is a late 16th-century house in a row, originally comprising two dwellings. The construction features unbraced timber framing with plaster infill, a brick underbuild, and a tile roof. It has a brick stack. A steep-pitched roof extends over the jettied upper floor, now underbuilt brickwork but retaining the appearance of the jetty; the gable end to the right has been largely rebuilt in timber.
The house is two storeys and an attic, with a three-window front. The first floor features a small-pane 18th-century three-light casement to the left, a central two-light window, and a larger three-light 19th-century casement with horizontal glazing bars to the right. The ground floor has three two-light casements with transoms, also with horizontal glazing bars, likely 19th century, possibly earlier. A six-panel fielded door sits under a four-pane transom light on the far left, and a similar door is centrally located, lacking an overlight. A good 19th-century attic light is set into the right gable, alongside a 16-pane casement window at first floor level. A smaller stack is located at the gable end. The property connects via a brick segmental arch to the adjacent Tolsey House.
The interior was not accessible at the time of survey, and appeared to be in poor condition.
