Description

Two houses forming a short row, dating from the 17th century. The construction is of coursed and squared rubble, with some heavy box timber framing at the rear. The roof is stone slate, including cut stone ridge details. A large external stack is on the left, and a ridge stack is at the party wall. There’s also a projecting wing at the left, incorporating timber framing, and the roof of the main block continues with that of the adjacent property, No. 85.

The houses have two storeys, an attic, and a cellar, with a three-window front. Dormers are present over the windows, and the ground floor features two small 19th-century 2-light casements, three sashes with central vertical glazing bars (lacking sills), and a further 2-light sash with a central mullion, set within a chamfered surround with a stopped drip. This window appears to be a modified, and extended, former 2-light or 4-light stone mullioned casement. A low opening gives access to the cellar on the left. A 20th-century part-glazed door is positioned off-centre to the left, set within an early 18th-century moulded architrave with a keystone and approached by four steps. A plank door is on the far right, set in a deep reveal with five steps.

Inside, there is some remaining timber framing, a stone bolection mould fireplace on the ground floor left, and a good shell cupboard. The building formerly functioned as the Pack Horse Inn.
