Description

Parks Farm is a former farmhouse or three cottages that has been converted into one house. It likely dates from the 17th century but underwent significant restructuring in the 19th century and re-windowing in the 20th century. The building is constructed from coursed and squared limestone with a stone slate roof. Originally designed as a one-room deep cottage, it features three flush dormer gables, although the exact layout is uncertain. The house has been extended with three gabled wings at the back, partially built into the hillside.

The property has one and a half storeys, with the ground floor containing four two-light casement windows and one single-light window. The left side of the cottage has two two-light windows at the eaves, while each gable has a two-light return; the right side has one two-light window on each floor. The left return has a plain gable followed by a half-dormer in the wing. The back of the house features four gables, one of which is coped and has a two-light casement; at a lower level, there are four lights, and all windows are steel casements. The front has two 20th-century glazed doors, and the back has three doors. There are two ashlar gable stacks, one external stack on the right, one ridge stack, and a brick stack on the left back wing.

The interior has been much modified but retains large transverse beams with rough chamfers and stops in two ground floor rooms, likely from the 17th or early 18th century. The back of the original section has a plank door in the original back wall. One internal wall at the upper level is heavily timber-framed, including a tie beam and collar, and the foot of one roof principal is exposed in the back corridor. The roof features a simple tie beam and many original rafters, with a gable interior wall finished in lath and plaster. Despite the extensive changes to the exterior, the substantial remnants of the internal structure provide historical interest related to these labourers' cottages.
