Description
Nos 10 and 11 Nelson Street are a pair of small houses dating from the 17th century, likely originally two cottages. They are located in Tewkesbury and are a remnant of a more substantial historic fabric, possibly a service wing related to No. 21 Barton Street. The building is timber-framed with square panelling, brick, and rendered surfaces, and has a tile roof.
The architectural style is characterised by two storeys and a two-window front. A two-light gabled dormer with a central mullion is located on the left side, while a small 19th-century two-light casement window with horizontal bars to the eaves is on the right. The ground floor features two windows with simple fascias to a cornice mould. The window to the right is divided into three panes with vertical bars, and there are two glazed 20th-century doors. The steep-pitched roof has a stone ridge tile, and a break-line indicates the division between the two halves. Some light timber framing is visible on the first floor to the right.
Inside, a king-post truss is located near the south gable wall, along with two heavy cambered purlins. The central truss is a collar and tie design with purlin struts, and a heavy jowelled corner post is positioned towards the back right. A central chimney breast is present, though the stack has been removed. A 19th-century four-panel door is situated at the foot of the staircase.
