Description
Stonebow Cottage is a small house dating from the early 16th century or earlier, with alterations made in the late 18th century and the 20th century. The front is painted brick, resting on an older brick and stone base, with brick-nogged timber framing on the left gable and rear, and probably a 20th-century brick right gable. The roof is covered with double Roman tiles and has a very steep pitch, featuring a half-hip on the left and a gable on the right.
The house has two bays and is one and a half storeys tall, with one room depth. The front includes a timber sill on part of the left side and a three-light casement window. There is a 20th-century porch with a window on each side, and a boarded door set in the gable, which has barge boards. Two gabled dormers, each with a two-light casement window, are present on the roof. An external brick chimney is located at the left end, with tiled offsets, against the timber-framed gable that features a cruck truss, with the corner post exposed on the front. There is a further cruck truss in the center of the house, while the interior has not been inspected. It is noted that the house was originally one and a half bays and was extended by half a bay to the right. The rear wing is not of special interest.
