Description

The outbuilding and horse-engine house, located approximately 15 meters north of the Tithe Barn at Brockworth Court, date from the late 16th to early 17th century, with some 19th-century alterations. The barn features square-panelled timber framing with early weatherboarding, set on a random squared and dressed limestone plinth that includes some reused finely squared and dressed stone. The roof is covered with diagonally hung asbestos slates, which were likely thatched originally.

The horse-engine house has a red brick plinth with corrugated iron above and a felted roof. It has a rectangular plan with an octagonal horse-engine house added on the north side. The south side includes two plank doors and a shuttered window. On the north side, the horse-engine house is positioned off-center to the left of the barn, with a plank doorway located far right.

Inside, the barn has six bays. The original roof truss structure likely consisted of a tie beam supported by straight braces, with the tie beam holding a king-post that rises to a collar beam, flanked by diagonal struts on either side of the king post. Some timbers are missing from several roof trusses, and some may never have included the king post element. At the time of the last survey in December 1986, all trusses were leaning. The barn's floor level has been raised to match the top of the plinth, likely during the construction of the horse-engine house, which is situated on higher ground. There is no machinery remaining inside the horse-engine house.
