Description
No. 24 Vicarage Lane is a detached cottage that possibly dates back to the 16th century. The building features square-panelled timber framing, which is now covered by pebble-dash. It has a large, thin, diagonally set asbestos cement roof and red brick chimney stacks. The cottage has a rectangular plan with a later lean-to extension at the rear and is one storey with an attic.
On the entrance front, there are two 20th-century wooden casement windows flanking a 19th-century four-panelled door, which has two glazed upper panels. The cottage also features a single raking 2-light roof dormer, a two-light metal casement window, and a single-light steel casement window on the left gable end, as well as three single-light metal casements on the right gable end.
Inside, there is a spine beam with deep flat chamfers, and the former inglenook fireplace has been replaced in the 20th century. Although there has been limited inspection of the interior, the owner has confirmed the presence of cruck roof construction, indicated by the steeply pitched gable ends.
