Description
Almsbury Farmhouse is an 18th-century farmhouse that has undergone significant modifications in the 19th century. It is constructed from cut and squared limestone and features a stone slate roof with a coped gable and stack at the west end, a verge gable stack at the south end, and a large eaves stack centrally located on the north wall. The building has an L-shaped plan with a central entrance on the main wing's south facade, a second entrance on the east side, and a cellar.
The south front has two windows, featuring 19th-century two-light casements with glazing bars in gabled dormers above two three-light casements that sit under a continuous wood lintel at both the first and ground floors. A centrally located plank door provides access. On the return wall to the wing, there is a sash window with glazing bars above a two-light casement. The west gable, facing the road, displays two well-preserved 18th-century sashes with glazing bars set in plat-band surrounds. The long north wall has various windows, including two 18th-century two-light casements with leading under wood lintels, two 18th-century sashes with bars, and one narrow 19th-century sash with bars. Near the west gable, there are a pair of old plank doors leading to the cellar, also under wood lintels. The east facade includes a central door and sash windows, but the ground floor on the right features a three-light casement with rebated wood mullions. The interior, which was only partially viewed, appears to have been significantly modified, though some 18th-century window shutters remain. The floor level is stepped up over the cellar.
