Description

The Old Cottage is a 17th-century cottage that features an almost contemporary extension and a later cowhouse, which has now been converted. The building is constructed from limestone rubble and square-panelled timber-framing, with a stone slate roof on the main part and concrete tile roofing on the extensions. It has a rectangular plan with successive extensions to the right gable end.

The main body of the cottage has coursed squared and dressed limestone on the ground floor and gable end, while the first floor is made of square-panelled timber framing with rendered infill. The extension also features square-panelled timber framing with both rendered and stone infill. On the north front of the main body, there is one two-light and one three-light 20th-century wooden casement, along with a three-light casement in the upper right. The timber-framed extension has a plank door with fillets, and to the right, there is a single-light casement. The cowhouse has two 20th-century steel casements with glazing bars. A former projecting gable-end stack has been incorporated into the slightly later extension. The interior has not been inspected.
