Description

Manor Farmhouse and Dairy/Cheese Room is a former farmhouse dating from the mid-19th century. It is constructed of red brick with limestone dressings, and has a red tile roof with red brick stacks. The building has an 'L' shaped plan, with an octagonal dairy at the north-west corner.

The west front has two gables, and features 3-light and 2-light windows with flat-chamfered wooden mullions and transoms to the ground floor. Similar 2- and 3-light casements are found in each gable, with a single-light window with a Tudor-arched head to the left of the 2-light window. The octagonal dairy/cheese room projects forward to the left. The dairy has two wood-mullioned cross windows on the ground floor, and slit windows above. The main entrance to the house is via a porch at the rear. Gable-end and projecting gable-end stacks are present. The dairy/cheese room has an octagonal pyramidal roof.

Inside the farmhouse, original features include the staircase, doors, and a stone Tudor-arched fireplace. The dairy/cheese room, entered via the former wash house, has a flagged floor and slate slabs against the walls. Brackets supporting former cheese racks remain in the cheese room above. The dairy/cheese room is the building’s most important feature.
