Description
Ardfern is a cottage that likely dates from the 16th or early 17th century. It features a timber frame with brick nogging or rendered infill and has a thatched roof. The building is two bays wide and one room deep, with one and a half storeys and a single-storey lean-to on the left end. The framing consists of two panels high, with a mid rail at varying levels and angle braces connecting the main posts to the wall plate. There is a small window on the right, which is a two-light casement that probably replaced a door. The bays have separate main posts, with a gap between them, and the right-hand bay is smaller. On the left side, there is a two-light casement and a boarded door. Above, there is a two-light casement with small panes set in a swept dormer. A brick chimney is located on the left gable. The lean-to extension on the left is made of brick with thin timbers and features a 20th-century two-light casement and a low pitch roof. The interior has not been inspected.
