Description

Pigeonhouse Farmhouse is a late 17th or early 18th century dwelling, originally a farmhouse, that has been modernised. It is constructed of good-quality squared and coursed limestone, with a stone slate roof. The house has an L-shaped plan with a projecting back wing and a one-bay extension to the front. Stone stacks are present, with brick above the ridges. The original entrance was to a cross-passage in the centre of the front of the house, but it has now been moved to an internal angle of the L-shape. The house is two storeys and an attic, with a three-window front. It features various 2 and 3-light casement windows, all replacements from the 20th century. A 2-light and 3-light stone mullioned casement window is located on the return face of the wing. Modern additions include a door and porch, and a glazed loggia where the original entrance was situated. The back elevation contains a 2-light and a 3-light stone mullioned casement window. Inside, a solid oak newel staircase is approached through a "Tudor" style door arch. The roof structure in the back wing features chamfered spine beams with run-out stops and collars.
