Description
Garter Court is a small detached dwelling dating from the 17th century. It features a rendered front with coursed squared rubble at the back and has a double-roman tile roof. The building is two storeys high and has a one-windowed façade, with a three-light stone mullioned casement on the ground floor that has a stopped drip, and a two-light casement on the first floor to the left. There is a deep set narrow modern door also to the left. The left gable has a two-light casement, while the right gable has a three-light casement with a later two-light casement above it. The ground floor appears to have originally been one large room, possibly a court-room, but it is now divided into two unequal parts. On the back wall, part of a large stone lintel to a fireplace is visible. At the time of the survey, the property appeared abandoned, but its name and the remains indicate it may have been significant to the history of Coaley.
