Description

This is a row of three cottages, located in Churchend, Eastington. They are believed to have originally been a barn, dating to the 17th century with alterations made in the 19th century. The cottages are timber-framed with square panels filled with brick, set upon a tall chamfered stone plinth. The front has a stone slate roof, while the rear has double Roman tiles. Brick ridge stacks are present. The cottages are arranged as a single, long range with a rear lean-to along the entire length, and a small 19th-century brick addition to the right-hand side of No. 5. No. 3 has two dormers with raking roofs visible through the eaves, and Nos. 4 and 5 each have three gabled dormers on the eaves, all containing paired casement windows. The ground floor has small, square, paired casement windows in Nos. 3 and 4, filling a single panel, and larger 20th-century casements in No. 5. Plank doors provide access to all three cottages, with a small glazed inset in the door of No. 4. Large, gabled porch hoods, supported on struts, are present. The left-hand return of No. 3 exhibits brick infill between exposed main beams, with no additional framing.
